Picnic Goodies!

I am not very happy with this particular photoshoot. I really need to learn more about light and shadows. But still, there were a few that I thought were worthy of sharing and hopefully learning from. Please,if you have an opinion you wouldn't mind sharing (I am begging for feedback here) tell me why like or don't like a picture and what you think I could do to improve the pictures. And if you have any photoshop hints, oh please tell me! Thanks for looking anyhow and because we all like comments, feel free to comment.

Well number one, you're apparently under a tree, which always makes life difficult because of the dappled light and shadow thing. Second, that basket you're using also casts a shadow, so you don't have consistent light over the whole body. And third, that last set where she's leaning against the basket rather than in it, I don't like the angle at all. You shot her from above, so that makes her look like an alien with a huge head. And babies have huge heads to begin with. Try to stay closer to the angles you had in the earlier photos, where you can see her natural proportions.

Other than that, like I always say, experience is what you get when you don't get what you want, so don't worry about the ones that don't turn out so well. They're all just experience. At least the ideas for your photos are great. The execution will come along with practice.

Try to do it at dusk 6 pm. The lighting is best then. Then you can put her in the full sun.
Don't do it under a tree. :)
She is a great subject. I can't believe how willing she is to let you throw her in a basket :)

Ditto to the dusk comment. If you do shoot during the day, use a UV lense attachment for your camera. There was so much red in these pictures that it would have been cool to make the rest of the pic B&W while leaving a little red.

I'll have to call you sometime when I'm by my work computer so I can walk you through some fun stuff.

I've heard that the best time to take photos outdoors is when it's overcast. The lighting is more even then.
I hadn't thought of dusk, that's a good idea.
She is too cute! Do you nibble on her cheeks in between taking each picture?
